Bill

Our next inductee to the Idiot List is a CPA named Bill. Until recently I worked for him. For close to eight years, he has led me along, telling me that I would take over his clients when he retired. As recent as April 2008, he was introducing his clients to me, telling them (and me) that he would be retiring and that they should plan on working with me directly.

That talk went silent at some point during the summer of 2008. I got my CPA license in October '08, and then in December '08 Bill announced to the rest of us at the firm where I work that he had found someone with whom he would be starting a new business and taking his clients with him. The new guy he partnered up with... he's my age, and has about the same experience as me. So why didn't he just choose me? I'm sure Bill has his reasons, however lame they may be.

Now there are several clients who have dealt solely with me that I have to fight to try to keep. It will be a hard battle, and I think Bill will probably win. These people are used to working directly with me, but that doesn't seem to matter. Taking care of the client has never really been one of Bill's talents, although neglecting them and procrastinating their work sure seems to have been.

So, Bill, for leading me along, then kicking me in the face, and making me feel completely devalued, you get a prime spot on the Idiot List.

    I agree. So glad we have this list going. Maybe we can give awards at the end of the year to the top idiots. And don't you feel better for just writing it down?

    That's a long time to lead you on, so I vote that Bill is an idiot in more areas of his life than just work. Your life will be better without the likes of him in it for sure. The best revenge is massive success...go get'em!!
